Chapter 6: The Wretched Scum of the Seven Seas Arthur couldn’t be any more wrong while he gazed at the iron hulls of the ship beyond the horizon. The ship, dubbed “Jack’s Bane," stood entirely still, its icy imprisonment forever bound to the sea, till its Captain stir awake with a blue fiery vigour in his heart; his great lust for vengeance. And all of it seethed deep within his stone cold heart under his laid back and resting chest, still recovering from mourning at the loss of his right hand. But luckily for him, it wasn’t his dominant hand.Chapter 6: The Wretched Scum of the Seven Seas by *ESD9001
In his sleep he tossed and turned with eyes ever searching the one whom he would blame for his pain, blame for his suffering, and his loneliness. Captain Ivan had no one to call his own; no one could ever thaw through that glacier inside his chest, or even get past that stern, malicious glare of his crystal clear blue eyes. You’d think he‘d have no soul; no magic or essence of heart to fill that grand bulky, and tall body,
| RECENT SKETCH: Ivan Braginski/ The Russian Federation |
Arthur felt the frigid sting of the air breeze upon his nose and smoky wood burn from the hearths of the black bricked blocks of houses, childish laughter and lights of the lantern lit posts and nightlights of safe guard all melded into rivers and streams of lights. Everything seemed to brighten in colours, lights of yellow dust, and white moon, blue nights, and snow pure white. Everything, crystal clear in his mind with no tints of grey, no dark dull hues and the world before him a pure fantasy. And little did he notice the stone wall right before him, going at it full force Arthur couldn't stop himself. Didn't even have a seconds thought to think putting his arms up try to stand and began to fall closer to the ground, the wall right at his nose---
"HEY watch it~!" Reaching out with his bold arms, Peter lifted Arthur up and flung him onto his back, Arthur automatically latching on.
"The sights are pretty and all but you gotta watch where yer going Artie." He started to laugh simply by Arthur clinging his claws into him.
"Your-r-r one to talk... shut up." Again a red face for his failure, and instantly faded by the light of the clock and the chorus of the chiming bells growing louder and louder.
"It's time to go guys!! Hurry up!" Peter shouted behind at two boys, ascending higher and higher into the air and beyond the puffs of clouds. Peter started to push Arthur off, but the other seemed reluctant to let go, afraid of falling again.
"Hehe it's alright Artie loosen up.... You'll never be able to get to NeverLand if you don't fly~!"
"Can't you j-j-just take me there like this?"
"Nope... you have to fly on your own. My rule~!" He smirked at the other with a mocking chuckle.
"Argghh... fine."
"Hold my hand, and you'll be alright."
Arthur nodded, taking the large rough hand into his and carefully unfolded himself from the other. He closed his eyes, opening his arms to embrace the open sky with a thundering heart. He feared to open them, feared to wake up and fall on his bed, feared that this would all be a dream and none of it truly happened.
"Just trust me.... and open your eyes, you have to believe!"
'Believe... I have to believe. Says him, it's so easy, arrogant prick. Ok Arthur come on... believe...'
Lightening the heavy forced weight upon his eyes, he told himself to forget everything. Forget falling... forget that you can even die and peeked through the slits of his eyes.
Were those stars? He wondered as he opened his eyes more and more. And then... he laughed, nervous at first, then full of confidence and a freedom, the heavy weight lifted from his chest.
Below so many kilometres, the city of London, and all those laying around it soon you could see Paris, Rome, Berlin, all of those streaming dangling lights, little fires of pixie dust and stars painted the dark blue earth. So much serenity and warmth in the cold winter chill of air breathed itself into Arthur. The beauty of being miles away from home and seeing the world in the blink of an eye, a far off dream put away now realised.
And Peter though he'd seen the awe of stars before, only a pair of stars truly caught the attention of his eyes. And always wondered why in particular he could never stop gazing into them, feeling... a gravitational pull. The only thing... he could never fly away from. Only admired their twinkling light from a distance and they never once twinkled his way.
"See... it's not so hard once you get used to it." Peter broke the still air.
Arthur turned, shuddering, awoken from his dream.
"I suppose so..."
The passing glance of discovery... something they both shared while peering into one another for only but a brief moment, before the scarlet beam that was Yao interrupted, and Peter obediently turned away.
"... Just because I'm following you, it no mean anything. I still hate you, ass." He puckered his sour lips, and furrowing those pencil thin eyebrows.
"At least you're talking to me~~." The other leered his fangs a little.
"Aiiiyah.... I hope your stupid face gets punched."
"So... where are we going exactly?" Matthew began this nervous thought, the little detail that seemed well... missing. He knew from Arthur stories to be the "Second Star to the Right", but they were rather vague. Any of these stars could be the 'Second to the Right.'
"That star over there, silly." Peter blatantly pointed out. Matthew just shook his head, seeing the general direction of the clustered lights.
And Peter who flew dab in the middle of the line, too awe inspired to even talk. Or preferably, he had at least 1000 things to say at his amazement of the entire flight. And still he'd yet to see NeverLand, which would add 1000 more things of the great list of compliments and exaggerations he could speak.
Arthur though, could somehow point out the bright blue star in the midst of all the others, and asked.
"How long are we from here....?" All he got in reply, Peter linked their hands.
"Just tell the other's to hang on tight." Again, the arrogance in his fangs, gleaming, got Arthur nervous. The wicked smirk could never be trusted, and did as he was told, all of them making a train.
Before he could even analyze another question to his lips, all three of the Darling brothers jerked and swayed, with the renegade Pan.
And all three could not close their eyes being swarmed into the phase of pale egg blue light, glistening before their eyes, and the stars faded into the light.
Little Pete reached out with hands, and it the trail of magic turned to water in his hands. Matthew's hand slipped slowly and he tried to pull on screaming the faster they went. And Arthur who still had a disbelief he'd still be living, and flying all in once. But soon he felt their hands slip, Pete's little fingers clawing in, just were barely enough, their links tearing away at the intensity. Closing his eyes Arthur didn't know what would happen next.
The wind whipped and whistled quietly. He clenched his hand and felt no little fingers gripping onto his empty bare palm.
'Are we dead? Or did we get lost in space?' The fear to open his eyes made him wonder if he was even flying... or falling. It'd be hard to tell. Yet there seemed to be a familiar rustle that sounded like shushing, something comforting him that everything would be fine.
'I couldn't even begin to describe the wonder before me. The sea, the placid blue, gleaning and groaning to life with the whipping wind against tips of the white cloud waves. The brine of sea, the salt in the air, and mocking seagulls flapping their wings beside our hair. As one would look up as I did towards the horizon ahead, the glorious sight of the Grand Island from the tallest peak down to the green moss base, contrasted darkly against the shining sun, whom spanned his arms to embrace his warmth to the world around. What I had once seen in my dreams.... perhaps this would still be a dream within a dream? And yet, I knew it twas not. For I had someone to hold me, and keep me from waking up. Some sort of proof to my mind, it could never be anymore real. It was there. And now I felt a dreading notion I would never want to leave, nor would I want to. Scattered smoke billowed from the Eastern edge, perhaps the natives on the hunt again. To the end in front of me, the silent lagoon still echoed the high sopranos and altos of last nights melodies sung gayly to the moon. And to the far West of my eyes, the one thing that excited me the most... the dark ship, of metal black covered in winter's frost, unbeknownst of our whereabouts or existence. But I could feel it stir. Soft strums of strings and a handsome alto behind them, drunken brutes dancing the heavy clinking boots upon the floor, and the "slinchk" sound of metal scraped and chipped off the Redwood, the short stout ends of daggers thrown about.'
With now his eyes open to the world, Arthur asked,"Where am I?" Though he already knew.
Then something giggled, lowering his head down, and whispered gently into his ears, pulling Arthur close as if he'd drop him from hearing the very words, though Peter knew he never would.
"NeverLand."

"Well…. Zere go ze lights."
"Oh look, the frogs learnt to think!"
"AIyahh quit it now~!"
"Prease, ret's not fight."
"Wahhh it's dark. Germany where are you?!"
"Why do I feel spiders crawling up under my coat?"
" HAHA~! "Guys…. Where are you? Britain, dude…?"
"It's England you incompetent fool!" Somehow in the dark Arthur wraps his arms around something nearby.
"Hon hon hon hon ~want to continue this someplace else." Francis said vulgarly patting the bushel of hair nearby.
"Veee~~ Germany is that you? Ve ve ve…"
"Whoever you are prease stop touching me."
SNAP
" DAAHHHAAHHHAA" Alfred jumped instantly clinging to the shadow nearby.
"Hallo. Scared of the dark ~Da?" Ivan held the other in his arms.
"Hahah… no I'm not!! Psshh, what would ever give you that idea?" Alfred clung closer to Ivan, shuddering at every little sound that passed by.
"Why do I get the feeling someone's right behind me? ~aru"
"China… could you get off of me? I'd really appreciate it. ~ eh"
"Ahh, zo zhats vhere you all vere." A bright light soon filled the room, emanating from a lamp. Five figures appeared behind the lamp.
"GERMANY~!" Instantly the Italian flew into the air, and sadly Ludwig could not move, and threw the lamp to catch the renegade copper head.
"Italy NEI— " They fell to the floor and lay there dazed for he did not know which hurt worst. His head…. Or his chest, being crushed by a rather frail, light hearted person.
"Hey vatch it Vest! Ve need zhat." Gilbert reached out to catch the lamp and waved at the other party.
"HMPH. Yeah… hug the potato bastard, but not your own brother. Asshole." A shadow glared down the two on the floor looming overhead before walking away.
"Lovi you don't mean that now do you? If you want I could give you a hug~!"
"No, I didn't ask you! OI, OI, GET OFF ME!"
"Fusososo your just cranky because you're afraid of the dark~!"
"Shut up!"
"Ugh…" And annoyed and rather nasal voice passed by. "Somethings never change do zey?"
A female crept up behind the tall and handsome figure consoling his rather spoiled temper.
"No. But how you let them affect you will change them."
A bedlam of voices, greetings and arguments arose from all around the warehouse room, connected to this dark mansion they were all forced inside. Eventually one voice always barked over all the others.
" SILENCE!" Of course all turned to those piercing blue eyes, with arms folded across his chest, as he organized these unsorted nations into line.
"It's clear we are all stuck here und vill be here for a long time. Now, ve need to check how many supplies ve have if we are going to vait out till zhis blizzard passes by. Group A vhat have you found?"
"VODKA~!!" Ivan began to worship the store of bottles in the back.
"Uhh yeah, like Ivan said. Lots of Vodka in the back shelves… and some beer kegs, not much else." Alfred finished.
"Vell, that's good to hear. At least bruder vill have his beer. Group B?"
"I found some pasta! But all the waters frozen, so I can't make pasta with it." Italy gave frown, holding two boxes of the pasta in his hands.
'Pasta. Vhy mein gott, vhy is alvays vith ze pasta. Vhy not pizza for once?!' Germany pinched his eyes with his head turned down. "Ja, thatz great Italy. Anyzing else?"
" Mmm some frozen meat und a few cans of tomato sauce, aund stew." Prussia finished throwing a can to his brother.
The other sternly examined the can of stew. "Vell… it's better zhan military rations. Zhat's good news. Group C?"
"We were actuarry very sucessfur in searching for frammabres."
"That's right, we found 3 tanks of kerosene, a few matches, even some fireworks! ~ aru. There is even a sauna room in the back of this room, big enough to fit all of us!"
" Wunderbar, China und Japan!"
[ In other words: East Asians= dependable Others= utter failures ]
"Und last, Group D?"
" It's rather unfortunate to say, we found some flash lights in the back, but we don't know how long they have been used, nor do we have batteries to supply them with, so we'll have to be wary. For now wherever that creature is, it's nowhere nearby, so we should be safe here for the mean time. And hiding in the sauna sounds like a better idea."
"Hmm yes Angleterre you could sit next to moi, and snuggle up non? Honhonhon" Francis whispered in his ear.
"In your dreams…" Arthur shoved him off.
"Any who, ze only zing ve found for some entertainment, is zhis book." Austria pulled it out in front, a rather thick and ancient text, the bind 2 inches alone and its pages worn and loose, only preserved by the dust and frost of time.
Germany took it into his hands and passed his idle eyes by it. "It's in French."
"Ohh really? Let me see! Prête-moi." Francis immediately took the book into his hands.
"Hon hon hon, I know zis story. Dis Angleterre, what waz ze name of zhat… zhat guy who used to write zose terrible plays?"
"His name, is Shakespeare, and mind you at the time he was paid by the word. They are iconic masterpieces… why do you ask?"
"I ask because zis story… sounds a lot like something he wrote… only different. And much longer…"
"What? Let me se—"
"Ve vill look at it later. Right now let's get settled, then while ve vait for the night to pass, France can read us zhe story."
And so the survivors gathered round what they could scrounge around and set themselves up in the sauna room, feeling tense and uneasy at their rather dark situation.
While their meal still unthawed and cooked in the fire, they got themselves comfortably tight in the small room and began to take their seats for the long and what seemed a dreadful night, quickly calling spots, while Arthur locked the door.
"Oh Angleterre~~ I saved a seat especially for you!" Francis pat the space between him and Matthew where Arthur would sit.
"Why do I even bother?" Mumbling, moping and slumping his way there, he sat, arms folded and a slight pout as he curled up and shiver putting his hands out near the warmth of the glowing embers.
"So France, dude, what's the story about?"
"Zis tale has a lot of history behind it in ze first few pages… but after zhat it gets interesting.
" What were the first few pages about specificarry?" Kiku asked curiously.
"War and politics of ze world in ze book, you know, diary entries, battle dates… le histoire. Very boring. Zough after zhat, the story… is different. It just ends abruptly… I zink it's missing a few pages, but zere's a good deal of story before zhat, so who knows. Zey might be around somewhere we could search for zem later. Any ozer questions?"
"So what kind of story is it~?!" Italy kept pestering while he swirled around holding his ankles.
"Heh, ze best kind, with romance and tragedy… it's actually amusing... some of ze characters here sound a lot like us."
"Really? So there is an awesome me inside that book?!"
"Apparently so."
"DUDE, that is soooo freaky cool!"
"Vell zhen let's hear it."
Taking a breath, everyone seemed to settle in, and peered in close to listened in.
"Once upon a time long, before our world began, zere once exsited another, where all were once ruled by a great and vast empire, under one sky, and one land."
